The Chief Medical Officer, Dame Sally Davies, has called in her annual report for every cancer patient to have genetic testing. This would lead to personalised treatments being designed for each individual patient. The 100,000 Genome Project has shown the importance of genetic testing in the development of personalised and therefore more effective treatments; genomics (studying the full DNA content of human cells) could be used to aid the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our Medical Patron, Professor Louise Jones, is closely involved in this project as Clinical Head for Molecular Pathology.
